Real Parmesan cheese, or ”Parmigiano-Reggiano” as it is actually called in Italian, is known as one of the world’s tastiest and most popular cheeses.

To earn its name, the cheese must be made in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, following rigorous rules on production, animal welfare, and quality. Each wheel is carefully inspected to ensure excellence.

These criteria are set and carefully controlled by a so-called consortium (Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano Reggiano). Read more about them and their work here.
